ABOUT

jerome wilson dcb mma & athletic training owner

“My rule for being successful in fighting and in life is self actualization. Basically meaning, in order to achieve one’s full potential one must first believe it’s there and then act on it.”

Jerome Wilson – Owner DCB MMA

YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW MY NAME.

“Coach, what does it take to be a fighter?” I have been asked this question a million times, and I get it, being called a fighter is like wearing a badge of honor. Daily in America some man or woman walks into a MMA gym ready to sign up and climb in the cage. Just look at Instagram and type in a fight hashtag. You will find a plethora of people posting themselves hitting mitts, bags, each other, and even kicking trees.

I have been involved in fighting and coaching for 21 years. I have fought Muay Thai to Boxing to Full Contact Kickboxing. I have even been a “professional sparring partner” (a human punching bag). When I lived in Richmond, VA a local boxing promoter would call me and tell me he had a new prospect at the gym. Roughly translated this meant I need you to come in and test this guy’s chin. I competed in my first fight in 1999. It was an international Sanshou tournament in Baltimore, MD. I had only been training for 3 months. My coach signed me up and I managed to finish in the top 3 of my division.

I got a medal and in fact I have other medals too. (So what…lol)

Fighting is one of the most rewarding experiences a person can ever have. It shows you just what you are really made of. For me personally, it’s right up there with the first time I saw my wife and the first time I held my children. It is what I am, it’s my whole being.

In 2013 I opened DC Boxing & Fitness, a Thai Boxing/MMA studio located in the Navy Yard in Washington, DC. DC Boxing was a great success. In our first 6 months of business my gym was featured in the Washington Express, nominated “Specialty Gym of 2013”, and my conditioning class was picked as one of the most challenging workouts in Washington, DC. Showtime Sports, Golden Boy Boxing, The New York Times, and NBC’s Today Show all paid visits to my former gym DC Boxing.
