Martial Artists and Fighters are not the same. There is a distinct difference, yet many think they are one in the same.
I am going to say something that may get your underwear in a knot. Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris, Jean Claude Van Dam and Steven Seagal are Martial Artists. They were and are amazing to watch. I have seen every movie that these men have made …every single one. Still, they are Martial Artists.
Fighters are known by one noticeable trait, they fight. Not really sociable, at times awkward, and often unprofessional in most settings. Like me, I am probably one of the most inappropriate people on the planet. I truly feel that every office, school, and courtroom needs to have a ring/cage. If anyone has a problem well dammit, glove it up! Things are solved a lot easier when a ring is involved.
Martial Arts is a beautiful journey of self discovery. Fighting is the painful and honest reality of combat. Martial Arts promotes growth and the accomplishment of progressing through levels of learning. Fighting is the desire to be the best, and the willingness to display heart in the midst of a chaotic moment. Both are amazing and deserve respect.
“To be great in anything it takes confidence, but to be great as a fighter it takes unmeasurable levels of confidence.”

BOXING
Queensberry Rules, or to you lay folks, boxing, is the most misunderstood discipline in Martial Arts. How many times in a Bruce Lee movie do we see Bruce flick his nose then start shuffling? Bruce knew something that most coaches, Kickboxers, Thai boxers and MMA fighters still don’t get. EVERYTHING starts and ends with boxing.
All fights start off at hand range, no matter what the ref will make us touch gloves.
Learning how to throw a punch or properly turning it over is just one aspect of boxing. Boxers spend lifetimes learning how to use two weapons, while the rest of us spend two weeks thinking we have mastered it.
The punch in boxing is the end result of chain of events that can produce a knockout. If you as the fighter have bad foot placement, bad balance, and are tense your punch becomes a hard push.
The “Sweet Science” takes time and dedication to become proficient. Go to a real boxing gym and train with real boxers. Spar, spar, spar, and take your lumps. Anyone can throw a punch, but being a boxer takes actual skill.
